Honoring the past with preservation while embracing progress, Harrodsburg is the perfect mix.

Because Harrodsburg was Kentucky's first settlement (1774) there are many structures in the community that deserve to be preserved for posterity.  Fortunately, there are several local organizations dedicated to preservation like The Harrodsburg Historical Society, The Diamond Point Foundation, Harrodsburg First and the James Harrod Trust that are up to the challenge.

The James Harrod Trust is but one example of what like minded people can accomplish when they band together for a common goal.  The Dedman Drug Store is the latest example in a long line of successful restoration projects in Harrodsburg.

This adaptive reuse project houses The Kentucky Fudge Company, one of Harrodsburg's newest business.  They serve gourmet coffee, espresso, ice cream, old fashioned sodas, fudge, cookies and a light breakfast or lunch in the old apothecary.  They are open until 9 most nights but have been known to stay open much later when the Ragged Edge Community Theater has a performance or when Harrodsburg First has a downtown concert or special event.

Over 50 structures are included on the National Register of Historic Properties.  Old Mud Meeting House and Morgan Row are two examples of The Harrodsburg Historical Society projects.

Small town life within a short driving distance to the amenities of a metropolitan area give us the best of both worlds.
