Small town life
with rural values, yet only 30 minutes
from Lexington, Kentucky's second largest city.
Quality of
Life is a subjective term and it
is difficult to make statements
that will hold true for
everyone. Harrodsburg and
Mercer County is sometimes
progressive, and other times
slow to move; Sometimes forward
thinking and sometimes content
to embrace our historic past;
sometimes growth oriented and
sometimes satisfied with status
quo; but is always a safe and
friendly and welcoming
community.
Harrodsburg
was the first settlement in
Kentucky and the area was chosen
for it's agriculture potential.
Over 70% of the land is still
used for agriculture. The local
school system has an active FFA
(Future Farmers of America)
chapter and our area was
recently chosen for the site of
Kentucky's Agriculture Heritage
Center that will focus on past,
present and future farming.
Beef
cattle, horses and tobacco are
the largest segments of the
farming community today.
Our city and
county school systems merged and
the first combined class
graduated in the summer of
2007. That is a very
progressive move and something
that many Kentucky communities
could never accomplish. Our
hope is that a combined system
will better serve the
students. A new high school
facility is currently under
construction that will allow all
to study together.
The Kentucky
River and Herrington Lake make
up the eastern borders of our
county providing recreational
opportunities that few
communities can offer.
In the
majority of Kentucky's counties
it is illegal to sell alcohol.
Commonly known as "dry"
counties. Harrodsburg has
struck a compromise by allowing
alcohol sales by the drink in
restaurants that derive 70% or
greater of their income from
food sales and also have a
minimum of 100 seats. This is
commonly referred to as
"moist" and we hope that such a
posture will attract additional
restaurants to the area.
After a
closer look, I hope that you
agree that the community is just
the right place for you.

days, and other hard facts is
